Let’s talk Black lives matter and coping with traumatic racism

I would say since these past couple months, but it actually been decades since my black people haven’t been treated fairly. But, we lost another black man name George Floyd and now we are beginning to fight harder for our rights because we are beyond tired!!

My name is Seqouia Battle the creator of bubblegumplease, and i am a 29 year old black woman. I have been followed around in stores, I have been called names such as “monkey”, “african booty scratcher”, “too dark”, “pretty for a black girl”, and I can go on. This is my first time actually talking about it publicly. I’m sure growing up a lot of others has witnessed being called them names before and more. It’s definitely not easy being black at all.

As i type this i get very emotional because this is definitely a traumatic topic. I’m sure for a lot of us. Dealing with racist human beings can haunt people, increase insecurities & lower people self esteem.

What happened to George Floyd is very disgusting not only that he was lynched on camera. That was the most terrifying scene I have ever seen in my 29 years of life watching someone take there last breath with someone knee on there neck :(. Our community has finally came together because we are beyond FED UP. Although I feel it’s not enough, it’s a blessing that things are starting to be noticed.

It’s a lot of information I have been reading on my culture. Things have been hidden from us, things are owed to us, and it’s just so much that hasn’t been revealed yet. We are demanding our rights!

Black people can’t even protest without being picked at by the cops or harassed. We need to end unlawful police violence against black lives matter protesters. It’s not right that we can’t protest in peace. All we want is change, and it seems that the police is bothered by that. Hopefully things get better for the black community because we aren’t stopping until we do! 🤎🤎

I never thought in my 29 years of life I was actually going to be a part of an protest. I definitely love this experience and it’s beautiful. This is definitely historical, I can be able to tell my children about this time.

Here are a couple of exercises you can use to cope during this Racism Trauma:

1. Meditate:

Meditating can be a great coping tool for anyone. Especially during this time right now, it’s much needed. You can find so many ways to meditate. Go to a much quiet space or where you feel like your more at peace. Download meditating apps like https://www.headspace.com.

2. Journaling

I’m pretty big on picking up a pen and writing ✍️ in my journal on my alone time. Journaling helps relieve a lot of stress, depression, and just helps you brain dump a lot that’s on your mind.

3. Talk to someone.

Sometimes talking to another person about your feelings can be very refreshing. Especially if you are the type of person who likes to vent. Express yourself, and let out all what’s bothering you. You will feel like a big weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

This isn’t something a lot of people were prepared for even myself. But I followed all three of those steps, and now I am coping. We have to just stay strong and stick together.

Prep talk on letting go shame

PREP TALK ON LETTING GO SHAME

Hello SP Fam!

I’ve been going through a process lately of letting go of shame. I know i’m sure most can relate to this. It’s been very hard, but deeply healing no matter what steps i have to take.

For a while now, I kept parts of my past life hidden & always been pretty much secretive about most things. I was ashamed of the mistakes I had made and the way I used to live my life honestly. I had a lot of fear that people wouldn’t like me or judge me if I let them know the truth. And that is just facts on facts!

As I move forward in life I realize to have the kind of life that I want to have I need to throw out the shame I’ve been holding inside for so long. I’ve been working on eagerly “clearing” my fears as they come up. I’ve started to notice when I hide my real authentic self because of shame. I have made a commitment to stay true & 100% honest now. If I’m not ready to speak out loud about my problems I’ll remind myself to write about it in my journal.

This process has become really important to me but very long. I do believe when I show authenticity and my open spirited personality I give other people in my life permission to do the same and that feels really important to me for the most part.

What makes you open to be more authentic?

Sometimes we don’t always want to be our selves around people because we may not trust them or just feel uncomfortable. but no matter what, being authentic at all times has got me more further in life and gave me the courage to say what’s on my mind and not feel ashamed about it. Now i am able to do things that are hard and give myself that big push forward when it’s needed.

Is it hard to be authentic?

Yes it can be hard, especially to others who “aren’t authentic.” But that shouldn’t stop you from staying true. Maybe you can motivate someone to live in there truth and be just as honest.

Don’t give up on being a better version of you. To elevate in life, you have to make sure people know the real you at some point in life. Embrace your authenticity and be fearless. Some people will respect you won’t.

3 Ways to finish the year strong

We’re coming to the end of the year which is a really hard time for me to stay motivated i can admit.

It’s easy to just say “forget it” and throw away all my routines and daily practices out the window.

I tell myself I’ll start over in January and before I know it it’s been weeks since I did the productive things i had lined up.

The problem with this is that when January 1st finally comes around I’m not very well prepared to put in order all of my new goals and resolutions because i’m still recovering from a shitty year i had.

I do like to use the end of the year to set myself up for my new goals and I think it’s actually the perfect time of year to refocus so I’m prepared to start off the new year on the right foot. I just know i have to be consistent, dedicated, and prepared.

I hope this article gives you some ideas to help you finish the end of the year strong the right way.

GO OVER GOALS (REVIEW)

It’s times to go ahead and review your goals and new year resolutions you set at the beginning of this year.

Have you notices that most of the time we have gotten to the end of the year and we already went invisible on our goals we set. This is the perfect time to restart all your goals again.

Good question to ask yourself.

What could you do to make this year a success? How will you make this year a success without holding back?

Set up some kind of standards between now and the end of the year. You could commit by staying true & dedicated to your words, so you can enter the new year with a positive & strong driven mindset.

BREAK IT DOWN TO THE (T!)

Brainstorm. Brainstorming is definitely important. I like to overlook my goals before i even take action. I have to be clear on what my vision is and what i actually want in life.

Starting with the vision and then setting goals that will help me create the life that I want to live has really helped me stay focused on my goals throughout the year.

CREATE A VISION

Honestly i can admit, I use to set irrelevant goals. I always made a list of goals that i knew 100% i wasn’t really into or wasn’t going to take action on.

I never was the type to fantasize & have big dreams about what i really wanted in life and what my life would actually look like in the future. I felt like my goals were uninspiring and that was all I could really actually strive for at that time.

So of course i stopped settling goals and i finally decided to “create a vision” for my life and things started to get better.

Although at the time i was very emotional and always believed that i’ll never achieve anything in life, because of my bad experiences growing up, I still made it happen.
