Let’s talk Black lives matter and coping with traumatic racism

I would say since these past couple months, but it actually been decades since my black people haven’t been treated fairly. But, we lost another black man name George Floyd and now we are beginning to fight harder for our rights because we are beyond tired!!

My name is Seqouia Battle the creator of bubblegumplease, and i am a 29 year old black woman. I have been followed around in stores, I have been called names such as “monkey”, “african booty scratcher”, “too dark”, “pretty for a black girl”, and I can go on. This is my first time actually talking about it publicly. I’m sure growing up a lot of others has witnessed being called them names before and more. It’s definitely not easy being black at all.

As i type this i get very emotional because this is definitely a traumatic topic. I’m sure for a lot of us. Dealing with racist human beings can haunt people, increase insecurities & lower people self esteem.

What happened to George Floyd is very disgusting not only that he was lynched on camera. That was the most terrifying scene I have ever seen in my 29 years of life watching someone take there last breath with someone knee on there neck :(. Our community has finally came together because we are beyond FED UP. Although I feel it’s not enough, it’s a blessing that things are starting to be noticed.

It’s a lot of information I have been reading on my culture. Things have been hidden from us, things are owed to us, and it’s just so much that hasn’t been revealed yet. We are demanding our rights!

Black people can’t even protest without being picked at by the cops or harassed. We need to end unlawful police violence against black lives matter protesters. It’s not right that we can’t protest in peace. All we want is change, and it seems that the police is bothered by that. Hopefully things get better for the black community because we aren’t stopping until we do! 🤎🤎

I never thought in my 29 years of life I was actually going to be a part of an protest. I definitely love this experience and it’s beautiful. This is definitely historical, I can be able to tell my children about this time.

Here are a couple of exercises you can use to cope during this Racism Trauma:

1. Meditate:

Meditating can be a great coping tool for anyone. Especially during this time right now, it’s much needed. You can find so many ways to meditate. Go to a much quiet space or where you feel like your more at peace. Download meditating apps like https://www.headspace.com.

2. Journaling

I’m pretty big on picking up a pen and writing ✍️ in my journal on my alone time. Journaling helps relieve a lot of stress, depression, and just helps you brain dump a lot that’s on your mind.

3. Talk to someone.

Sometimes talking to another person about your feelings can be very refreshing. Especially if you are the type of person who likes to vent. Express yourself, and let out all what’s bothering you. You will feel like a big weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

This isn’t something a lot of people were prepared for even myself. But I followed all three of those steps, and now I am coping. We have to just stay strong and stick together.

I am not a mental health professional, but i discuss my past to help those who are suffering from anxiety like i did. I am here to give those who suffer from any kind of mental health issues tips, and advise them on getting better. Three techniques to slay your Anxiety

I suffered from anxiety for years, starting at the age of 18. The Panic attacks and anxiety started at the age of 22, and it definitely took over my life and I found myself avoiding any situation I thought could induce my anxiety.

The thing with anxiety the more you ignore it, the more it will come hunt you. Sucks right?…  But wait, the more it hunts you, the more difficult it gets.

Sometimes just getting yourself together, like your appearance can change so much in your daily life. Don’t be a debby downer so much and find love within yourself. When we are stressed we get to the point where we just let ourselves go, and all that do is add more to the plate. You definitely want that plate to be empty with no worries.

In otherwise, SLAY THAT ANXIETY!…

#1 GET IN TUNED WITH YOURSELF

Think about all the good things you notice about yourself. Write it on a sticky note, journal, notes, hell wherever! Find yourself and figure out your happiness. The point where i’m getting to is that in order to be happy you have to make yourself happy. When you make yourself happy then what? you are in tuned with yourself. Can’t nobody tell you nothing different. AT ALL!….

#2 REDIRECT YOUR THOUGHTS

\When you notice you are starting to have negative thoughts then redirect your thoughts to something positive. Before i have an upcoming test, or job interview, I would always be negative. “I doubt i’ll pass” “I can’t do this” “I don’t think they will hire me”. Guess what happened when i had those thoughts? I FAILED! I had to start training my mind to turn a negative back to positive , and i still work on this til this day now.

#3 BE MORE WORRYLESS

We have to get out of that “worry” mode. Sometimes when you worry too much it actually triggers you to have anxiety attacks. We apply so much pressure on ourselves and we don’t have to. Live in the moment and be fearless. When you start to worry, find a good solution that can help prevent that. Remember it’s all in the head. Your mind will play tricks on you, especially for those who minds wander 24/7. So you have to play tricks back by winning over anything that’s stopping you from letting go of your worries. If you can’t make it to your close friend party on time? Hey! it’s not your fault. You still haven’t passed that test quite yet? Keep trying. Your close someone is treating you like crap and you don’t know why?! Who cares, let it go!. Stop worrying about situations or people who isn’t making your life no better good or bad.

Self-Care Ideas for when you are having a bad day

Self-care will and always will be one of my favorite topics. Taking care of yourself mentally & physically is so important. Sometimes we skip over making our selves complete. So many of us forget about caring for ourselves and that is okay and can easily be changed. We just have to choose our well-being first, and everything else comes last. So I have compiled a list of different self-care things you can do for when you are having a bad day, or to add to your daily self-care routine! I put each topic in different categories so it can be easier for you to choose which ones suits you the best.

Hitting your late 20’s? Make the rest of your 20’s a year of self-discovery.

Now that I’m 28 going on 29 in December, I just realized that I started late when entering in to the entrepreneur world. At age of 27 is when I started to think like wow I’m ready to be wealthy. And truthfully I’m sure other mid & late 20 year olds know that this is the most hardest time in our lives. Why? Because we are finally in adult hood and we are experiencing so much responsibilities. Bills, rent, gas, children, school, work, all of those things put pressure on us.

I was stressing more than actually finding myself and really trying to figure out my next step in life. One day I just woke up feeling different, feeling like I need & want more, feeling like this isn’t for me. It’s a honor to be comfortable with who you are, but at times it wasn’t because I was thinking that people will judge me for just figuring out what I actually want to do in life. So now I know I need to fight off any bad spirits that’s trying to bring me down and stop me from moving forward in life.

Our 20’s should be a year of self-discovery. Try different things until you find what you really like and want. No matter if it’s with someone, or by yourself. There’s nothing wrong going on a journey by your lonesome. Sometimes even relationships can be a distraction, and I wish i knew this then instead of now, but hey life is set up to learn and discover.

When I look back I realized how irresponsible I was, I couldn’t save money for shit, and I was so quick to spend. It’s a time in life where you have to stop buying all that expensive shit when you can save that money for your future success. Now that I’m on a journey for financial freedom and independency Starting now, I been brainstorming and figuring out a plan to build & become wealthy. My mind is already set to become a millionaire 1 day, and I’ll never change that or settle.

I decided late in life that I want to become a blogger. So, I started a blog Sixteen Pages. It has been two years, this is my anniversary blogging month. I always enjoyed writing, being expressive, sharing good advice, and discussing important topics, so I knew blogging was going to be something I’ll enjoy. And It was.

So now I listen to entrepreneurial, money making, and uplifting podcast on Anchor, another one called “podcasts” that came with my iPhone, and a couple more other podcast platforms. Listening to podcast has motivated me in so many ways. I’ve changed my thoughts about sex, relationships, and money. I now have a better sense that anything is possible with faith.

At first I was more afraid then happy to pursue my dreams, now I’m ready. I am not afraid to travel now, I am not afraid to take my brand to the next level, I am not afraid to quit my 9-5 so I can start my adventurous lifestyle while blogging. I am ready to travel out the country to learn, explore, meet new people, promote my brand, and to build my happiness.

In the path of transitioning into the new you, you might lose people on your way. But sometimes I honestly feel “if I lose you, that means you were never meant to be in my life.” You will lose & meet new people, it’s possible.

Make sure you focus on self care. Self care has been very momentum in the past few years. Back then I didn’t understand the concept of self care. Self care involves your health, mental health, appearance, etc. Just taking care of you and making sure you are good first is self care. That’s my motto now and my motto walking into 2020.

Be responsible. Sometimes when we get to a certain age, we start to be unorganized, and that is definitely not good especially if you are stepping into the entrepreneurial life. I admit myself that I am not responsible at times and I slip up. And I learned my lesson, like a big lesson. I remember I didn’t plan out my week for paying off bills, and end up doing something totally different and was broke by the end of the week. I went without gas, small meals, and barely no gas to get work. “Can I say the struggle was real?” I definitely don’t want to go through that again. Be responsible. I went without gas, small meals, and barely gas to get work. “Can I say the struggle was real?” I definitely don’t want to go through that again. That’s why now I created me a planner on Canva. There is an app to by the way. Using a planner has really helped me be more responsible, on time, and way more organized.

If I knew what I know now I’ll tell my younger self to be confident, independent, don’t give up, and focus on what you want and go for it!

“Believe in yourself, know your worth, and focus on positivity & less negativity.”

8 SELF-CARE HABITS FOR THE MIND

As humans we have to cure our minds & focus on self-care first. We tend to focus more on what’s not important then what’s actually important.

Self-care is doing what needs to be done, and balancing all goals you want to achieve in life. Self-care also nourishes your spirit and pushes you to strive hard everyday.

If you don’t take care of yourself or to harsh on your body you will become overwhelmed. That’s why I’ve pulled together 8 SELF-CARE HABITS FOR THE MIND for you!!

1. Take time off. Striving hard everyday is really important because the whole point is to achieve your goals, but sometimes it becomes tiring & a issue.

2. Find some quiet time.  Sometimes our lives are so busy we don’t never have time for peace and quiet.

3. Positive self-talk. Often times, you are your own worst critic.  That little voice at the back of your head can get real disgusting.

4. Get Bodywork. Our bodies store emotional tension in ways that we don’t even realize or notice, and bodywork allows us to release that built up tension.

5. Spend Time in Nature. Spending time in nature can actually be healthy for you, such as lowering your stress hormone levels. Get outside. Go explore, hit the beach, go hiking. Enjoy hearing the birds and the sound of waterfalls, enjoy our beautiful nature.

6. Eliminate Toxicity. Eliminate your amount of time you spend in negative situations or people that drain or leave you feeling stressed & over the top.

Always surround yourself around care, love, & positive energy.

7. Feed Your Mind. As a human, of course we are here to grow, learn, and elevate. Learning something new becomes interesting for us humans because it keeps our lives going and more interesting.

Try reading a new book, listening to a podcast, or even go to a museum.

8. Get Creative. Use your creative skills and put them to use. We all have a creative side, sometimes some of us just don’t know exactly what it is. When I say creative I don’t necessarily mean you have to be artistically creative. For an example, I like to take pictures, also I like to dress up, so I will dress up and take multiple photos and edit them, that’s part of my creativity gift. I was always told I take nice photos of myself.
